Michiel Keuper is an interdisciplinary artist with a background in painting and fashion design. A Visual Composer of sorts, he juxtaposes forms, shapes, images, colors and applies his vision on projects of various scale; be it a composition on a canvas, a series of hand painted T-shirts,  juxtaposing images on his Instagram account or making spatial interventions for a dance piece. He treasures collaboration, sharing, interacting. He believes in the transcendent magic of improvisation, the moment when 1 + 1 becomes 3.

>>Michiel Keuper (1970, NL) graduated from ArtEz, the Arnhem Institute of the Arts in 1993.
In 1997 he founded the fashion label KEUPR/van BENTM (blog), together with Francisco van Benthum. Soon K/vB became a synonym for avant garde couture. Their collections were regarded as autonomous fashion because of the emphasis on sculptural silhouettes, clashing colours, the absurd and the surreel.

At the 1998 Festival des Jeunes Stylistes, Hyères, France, KEUPR/van BENTM won the ‘Prix de la Ville’ as well as a special prize which included the opportunity to present their collection during Paris’ Prêt-á-Porter week in October 1998. This presentation at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in the Louvre, jumpstarted their carreer on the international scene. From 1998 until 2001 they presented their mixed collections bi-annually in Paris. Their work was featured by numerous international media, such as Vogue USA, i-D and Vogue Italia. Also it was part of several exhibitions at home and abroad (Centraal Museum UtrechtFashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York, Mercati di Traiano in Rome and Ozone Living Design Center in Tokyo a.o.). In 2016 the Centraal Museum Utrecht, that already acquired their work over the years, secured remaining key pieces from the Keupr/van Bentm archive for their collection.

Since 2002 Michiel Keuper worked as a freelance designer for several international companies such as G-star, Puma by Alexander van Slobbe, Clements Ribeiro and Ghost Ltd. Alongside he has been teaching fashion design at BA and MA courses in the Netherlands and Germany. He was staff teacher at The Fashion Institute Arnhem, the MA for fashion design of ArtEz Institute of the Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands, from 2002 till 2008. In 2003/2004 he was a guest teacher at the University of Applied Arts Pforzheim, Germany.  Also he has been teaching master classes in design and draping, otherwise known moulage technique.
In 2007 and 2009 he appeared as on-air mentor to designers in the Dutch version of the television show Project Runway.

Since 2009 he operates as a visual artist and he extended his work to fine arts, performance and art direction, as well as costumes and set design for contemporary dance.
